WE INVENTED THIS TERM to marry the hermetic / maiutic process with
astrology. Readings are like births, with the astrologer being the midwife
to draw out the soul of the native: An imaginal approach where myth, metaphor and story are honored.

The Hermetic tradition takes its name from Hermes Trismegistus as you probably know and this harkens back to the Egyptian
Thoth, the person and
divinity. In my master's thesis at California State Univ. Sonoma entitled HERMES:LOGOS OF PSYCHE, which was written for a degree in archetypal
psychology, I show the connections back in this direction (considered by
scholars to be based on a false assumption) and through the Greek Hermes
and Roman Mercury up to the hermeneutics of Martin Heidegger. You probably know that the myths of Hermes are very rich and suggestive of trickery,
seduction, midwifery (his mother Maia where Socrates gets his maiutic method), trade, delivering the messages, etc., etc. The overall mode of
Psyche-logical interpretation (related also to phenomenology) that gives value to
multiperspectives is home for Hermes. Astrology, for many reasons
is an hermetic art and with alchemy were ruled by Hermes to the extent that they are seen as coyote story and magical (in the sense of magus/imagery).

Our family reading arrived on Monday. Thank you SO much for being our astrological tour guide! So
much of the reading is really bang on. I put it on in the car and drove with Nissa for 40 minutes until I
felt overwhelmed with laughter and tears. I felt really affirmed hearing that what I experience on a daily basis is written in the stars. I feel like I don't need to struggle so much to change myself but rather accept
and embrace the qualities which make me who I am. Ben really resonated with becoming a master of
relationship/partnership. That is something he has been feeling for a while. And Nissa... well I see that
we are soooooooo blessed that she chose us, or perhaps we all chose each other... I would love to increase

Hi Jeannine,
Your astrology package arrived today with great excitement from us
all. Thank you.
We all (3 children and 2 adults) listened with laughter, tears,
hoots, nods, grins and lots of big eyes. You did a wonderful job.
We all could understand and relate -- it was so easy to follow along!
I especially liked how you referenced different ideas across the
spectrum of knowledge and spiritual history. Interestingly enough, we
finished the tape just minutes before my and Nica’s weekly primal
therapy session (which we did by phone being so close to the birth). I
felt wide open after the tape and ended up having a very deep and
fruitful feeling experience. A great deal of what you interpreted is in
fact true for us all - more obviously so for our three very special kids
who are quite healthy emotionally. It is the same for Nica and I, yet
less obvious - our true selves are still very tenderly emerging after
now seven years of therapy. It was my long (almost) lost inner self
that wept as you struck cord after cord. Yes, indeed, our coming baby
has already become a very significant guiding spirit in our lives. My
challenge especially is to trust my heart and be open to this connection
which you helped me to understand more fully - a monumental feat indeed
after a nearly successful soul murder by my own German parents (and
equally but differently so for Nica’s Honduran parents). Despite the
current financial and logistical hardships, we are well on our way back
to the love we missed and this baby no doubt has the wisdom to have
chosen all of us at this given time and place. We are very grateful.
The new baby’s ducks are very nearly in a row now and the birth feels
very close. How exciting! We’ll let you know as soon

And indeed, Roe did call right after the baby was born, the day after
their astrology reading arrives. He told me later that night after the
astrology reading, they also listened to my talk, “FREEBIRTH: Earth
Based Midwifery” during labor and their baby was born that very
next morning.
It was a perfect birth in a borrowed hot tub, in a lent yurt with all
their
"ducks in a row" and only their family present. The new father was
blown away by how conscious their baby was right at birth and as she was
introduced to her siblings, she held eye contact and radiated peace.
After talking with Roe on the phone, I saw that the babies being born
around this time of the disaster are very special indeed. They
will be the peacekeepers for our planet.
How did I meet this pregnant family? Out of the blue, Roe called me the
day of the terrorist attacks in NY and D.C. through a referral from
midwife Robin Lim, whom they had met through a mutual friend in Bali.
They wanted astrological insight into their imminent birth. Like almost
all of us, I
was processing the tragedies at the WTC and the Pentagon so Roe’s phone
call reminded me of both sides of life – creation as well as
destruction. With the help of Fed-Ex, I was able to deliver to them the
astrological reading before their due date. I drew up 6 charts and told
the family astrological stories about the baby coming and just how
connected to each of them this new one already is. Based on the
astrological data before me, I also liberally gave ideas about the birth
and the unique needs of the one coming. Throughout this entire reading,
I felt like
this is what I was born to do – share word medicine with those with the
cosmic ears to hear. What I particularly liked about Roe's feedback was
how all of his children actually listened intently to the astrology
reading. My prayer, when commissioned to do a family reading, is that
all of the family members actually benefit from my work. How grateful we
are for the technology of astrology, the quick mail service and our
mutual friend Robin for bringing us together. Roe closed our phone
conversation with a request for me to do his brand new daughter’s natal
horoscope (which was cast on my computer even before we finished
talking) and of course, another reading!
How could I refuse, after all, this is what I was born to do!
Jeannine drew a most visually lovely natal chart and did a taped reading for me almost 14 years ago. I was a Hygieia College student at the time and I immediately found the reading useful and enlightening. You, Jeannine, dedicated the reading to me becoming my own astrologer and that is exactly what has happened. I became fascinated with the art of
this science (and the science of this art), began reading books, casting charts, calculating aspects and talking to any and every astrologer who would tolerate my enthusiasm and naive questions. I am eclectic in all my learnings, sensing that although the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, the quickest path to Truth is a timeless circle or spiral and includes lots of "digressions."
It took me a long while to figure out exactly why the reading you shared was so empowering and it really manifest through a friend and a "mistake." A friend asked to borrow a tape of chants. I handed her Libana's "A Circle Is Cast" (!) without realizing that my natal reading was in the case. She listened to it (several times) and said, upon returning it, that although it wasn't 'about her' she found it highly useful and expansive to her awareness of her own life. Now how many astrological readings for other people would be likely to be interesting, much less useful, to someone else. I believe yours are, Jeannine, because you dig all the way down to the bedrock of Truth and essential archetypes that play out from within the soul of all being. How else to explain how a quad Capricorn, Aquarius Asc. chart reading could be useful to a double Scorpio, Leo Asc.? I have done this dear woman's natal and progressed charts since then and we have little in common in terms of life experiences and approaches.
I have had lots more input from other astrologers since then not only on reflection of my natal chart but Progressions, Solar Returns, Synastry and Composite charts and more. It would also turn out that the two elements that just never seemed to "click" (my rising sign and a packed 10th house) or "fit" me, were actually inaccurate. Not due to any error on your part, but rather because my birth time was innacurate.
So, how was this first reading so useful if it wasn't "right"? I took your advice, Jeannine, and considered that BOTH charts were my "correct" birth charts. After all, I had lived with that first one for nearly a decade and the aspects formed by all of the planets were still accurate and in effect. It was just that Gaia, in her dance, had to let her ecliptic belt slip around a bit to bring the psychic picture into focus. Now that Saturn, Sun and Jupiter have all crossed the first house cusp and have begun their rebuilding and constructive processes in earnest in my outer life and I am just coming through Neptune crossing the Asc. and dissolving away the egoic attachments to expression of Self in the name of my work in the world to find a more universal expression of service, surprise, surprise. That first chart is proving highly useful. It is as if I had a glimpse ahead about how my social life could manifest and was given time to reflect on how that matched my inner vision of my life's work. Sometimes, I think I wasn't ready to handle the idea of an Aquarius Asc. or the intense inner work of a packed, Saturnine 12th house with the aid of daring Aries forging a path through it
for me first.
Now, all this time later that orginal chart has come home to roost in a new way. I've had 14 years to gestate and reflect upon what this might mean! I've been using astrology in my daily life all this time, always learning, and now it looks like it is dawning as a practical tool in my work and service in the world. Mars, and my own inclinations, is making sure I fiercely defend my need to be at home and nurture my family and my relationship with the Earth, but it is unfolding like growing into a pair of shoes you've longed to wear since just a little girl.
