May began this year with an obvious fiery accent! The Mars/Chiron conjunction is rising, playful, dramatic Moon in Leo and a passionate Venus all add a bright color to the May Day parade in Red Square (or more astrologically correct, Red Triangle). Luckily, earthy Taurus keeps us grounded for the first part of the month as all the remainder of the planets are winds to fan the fires. Mother Maia, Goddess of the Wisdom of the dark cave and night sky lends Her name to this month of May. Like the Oriental Maya, our Taurus and Gemini season demonstrates the seductive, illusive nature of solidity and multiplicity. Massive planetary and cosmic forces are at play. Can we join the dance without getting devoured by Kali before our time? Try this exercise to get a flavor of the times: Imagine yourself as Sitting Bull in the midst of a War Dance, bringing the wisdom and patience of the ancient buffalo leader to the assembly of fired-up braves. What will you do? What is really worth putting your life, your family and your tribe on the line for? How can we shift this powerful energy towards healing? The Buddha is traditionally considered to be a Taurus. Sitting still in the eye of the cyclone, He touches the Earth as Maya dances around the spinal May Pole or Cosmic Bodhi Tree. If we can let our mind sit still in the midst of this May's parade of World Events, observing the pushes and pulls as tanks and missiles rattle past the review of our inner generals, perhaps we can awaken our Compassionate Buddha, the Sitting Bull of our dis-contents. As the Sun enters Gemini on the 20th of May and as the Moon joins the group on the 22nd, we have 5 super Geminis talking all at once! Just imagine such a gathering. The ideas will be flying at computer speed and all the remainder of the planets are in fire and air signs too! Hopefully, Saturn in Gemini will bring some semblance of order to the wind blown conflagration. The major emphasis on Gemini adds a question mark. Where might all the energy go? Due to the surprising nature of Hermes' twin DNA snakes, we can never be sure what kind of evolutionary program our genes might have in store? The opposition to all the Sagittarius now moving retrograde suggests both a full-filling and con-front-ive tendency. Which of our personal and social stories will come to their festive fruition and which will fall into the chaotic cauldron of heated opposition? Turning retrograde to digest the meaning of major oppositions, by the end of the month both Uranus and Neptune in Aquarius will join in the retreat to rethink our transformations. Giant Jupiter and soon thereafter our brilliant Solar Star and then Serious Saturn will all find their fullness across from the great invisible ruler of Hades. Venus is something of a wildcard bringing adventure with her trine to Pluto and soon again Chiron and her passionate partner Mars. Hopefully our breathtaking adventures will have important lessons along with the dents and bruises. And of course Lady Luna will continue to move through the houses, directing her silvered mirror at the fray. Will we be able to see our deep selves reflected in the firelight or only the wind blown smoke? Lets see if we can make the space now and again as the Moon journeys through Maia's wheel to utilize this month's extremely powerful energy. If so, it could be a month of great inventions and super creativity. And we could have big fun along the way!
