COSMIC WEATHER REPORT - JUNE 2001

Looking at London (the world time zone center) for the first second of June 2001, I notice immediately the lovely Grand Trine in Air signs. With a waxing Moon in Libra, applying to a trine with Sol, we are off to a harmonious start (at least). The peaceful Air element is highly related to the Fire of Sagittarius and Aries. Passionate Venus is also trine to her partner Mars, who is moving retrograde for some time conjunct with healing Chiron. We continue a theme of all Air and Fire planets but in this arrangement, the wind-blown conflagration is not so likely as the controlled burn. The major opposition between the Centaur's planets and the Twins' is also continued with the Sun applying to Pluto which will be exact on the 4th, pouring more fuel on the fire. Expect more of the political power plays that the oppositions from Jupiter have excited and which Saturn may bring to fruition later in the year. Another way to read the opposition is to see the full-fill-ment of the cycle. In the case of the Sun, we are at the high point of energetic transformation initiated about half a year ago.

     Earth Mother Ceres, in asteroid form, is exactly on the ascendant, retrograde in earthy Capricorn, urging us to rethink our commitment to our planet and putting special emphasis on life-sustaining agriculture and nourishment. A trine to the asteroid Juno in Taurus, underscores the powerful feminine energy of this month. Some say that June is named for Juno, the Roman Mother and Wife Divine. Others suggest that according to the Latin tradition, the "juno" is the inner guiding voice of a woman as the "genius" is for men. We might call our inner voice of guidance, incorporated tendencies of our ancestors or heritage. By whatever name, the month of June carries with it feminine inspiration and seasoned wisdom.

     Following closely on the heals of the Great Grandmother Goddess of the night sky and dark fertile cave, Maia, namesake for the month of May, comes the Goddess bride Juno, She who holds the bonds of matrimony sacred. The month of June still connotes a time of weddings, and begins with the Sun in the sign of Gemini, which besides being the sign of the Twins, is also the sign of the Lovers.

     Gemini, the third sign, is the medium with the message. Moving beyond duality, Gemini, ruled by Mercury the messenger, is the umbilical cord that connects the child to the grandmother placenta, Maia, mother of Hermes. The two pillars of Gemini are the two trees in the uterine garden, the Tree of Life (the placenta) and the Tree of Knowledge (the spinal tree). When we are expelled from the primal garden, we loose our connection to the Tree of Life and must rely on the Tree of Knowledge. As we make our first sound or first name, we begin again . . . "In the beginning was the Word."

     Actually in the Greek, the word translated as "Word" is "Logos." At the roots of this word Logos is another natural image, for it denotes a clearing in the forest where the Sun can shine and in this clearing some-thing can be seen. Thus in the beginning was the open shining space where the Thing or pure The-ing is allowed to show itself - and the "Word" allows for this opening and showing and shining. Before this, we could not see the trees for the forest!

     Hermes/Mercurius, the divinity of Gemini, carries in front of him a magical staff or Caduseus, which is the intensely wound fractile repository of ancient wisdom. In the shape of a staff wrapped round with two snakes, it images three-veined umbilical cord, spinal cord, subtle chakra energy systems, the Tree of Life and Knowledge, Sacred Geometry, the wisdom of the Twin shamanic Snakes, the microcosmic knowing of cellular bacteria, I-Ching book of changes, and above and below all else, it exclaims, "Behold, DNA!" In the twin snakes of the double helix bound with chemical umbilical cords is the message from the stars that directs us to make life in the image of our Divine Parents -- a history of the big bang, like Hermes telling the story of Zeus and Maia making love in their dark uterine universe. As Mother's Day falls appropriately in Taurus, so does Father's Day come in Gemini and dual partners make Three - like the DNA, replication is the name of the game.

     No wonder that following the third sign of the Divine Child, Gemini, we meet with #4, Cancer, the nursing Moon Mother, completing the fourth direction of the Mandala and supplying the nurturing milk. Hermes dances with the great triple Goddesses of May and June as Grandmother Maia, the Marrying Maiden Juno and the Moon Milk Mother of Cancer, Selene, filling up and spilling over. Many Gemini's make great nurturing parents as their Sun progresses into Cancer just in time for this role.

     The Wisdom of the Universe is heavily accenting the duality this month with the powerful opposition of Sagittarius and Gemini. As Mars and Chiron made it to the very end of Sagittarius before going retro, so too does Mercury turn retro on the 3rd and 4th at 29 degrees of his home sign of the Twins and Lovers to dwell here for an extended stay and let us re-program many of our set patterns of communication. The doubly extended opposition seems to be set for re-programming on a very major scale and with Mercury and Gemini so heavily involved, we are talking not only about communications and needing to take a new route to work, but all the way down to the Plutonic underworld of the DNA. Do you want to become a new species? If so, now is the time to etch some new patterns on your soul. How? Find the hermetic middle path between running away and reacting, be willing to dwell in the metaxy and look closely and clearly at the old ways the neurons have been connected. Allow something new to emerge and then nurture this Divine Child.

     On the 4th and 5th of the month, utilize the power-full Full Moon, which falls on the sensitive middle of the dual signs, to enlighten the process. At this time, including the asteroids, there will be 5 planets in Sag and 5 more in Gemini all at their Full Moon aspect and getting intense support through trines from the other extreme transformers, Uranus and Neptune in electrical Aquarius. All this month, Giants Jupiter and Saturn approach trines to Uranus and Neptune, adding emphasis to the surprising and subtle levels of the transformative re-programming. Daring Venus in Aries adds her passionate but harmonious love to the mix just before she mellows it down a few notches entering the mud bath at her sensuous home in Taurus on the 6th.

     And please don't miss the amazing solar eclipse ala solstice on the 21st. Greet the new season as the Divine Child drinking from the breast of the Galactic Mother of the Milky Way and vice versa. Wow! What a month! Mercury even helps us to celebrate June by turning direct at the end of month. June is busting out all over!
