Return to the current report Return to the archive lists COSMIC WEATHER REPORT FOR JULY 2001 In the U.S. we probably associate the month of July with 4th of July, Independence Day, festivities. Many holidays seem to be very fitting for the astrological sign and certainly the themes of independence, dependence, co-dependence, interdependence all have a distinct resonance with the lunar, maternal flavor of the sign of Crab and pinchers. We celebrate "independence" from the "mother" country, England and still have a special connection to her. Speaking of England, the first second of the month from Universal time gives us some water to balance all the fire and air of late. Pisces rising makes the grand trine to Sun in Cancer and Scorpio Moon. Let us hope this indicates that Earth's inhabitants will have the emotional, feeling world more harmoniously attuned this next month. With the major opposition between the highly intellectual signs of Gemini and Sagittarius still highlighted, we will need all the emotional balance we can get. All this month Saturn and Pluto move closer to their first exact opposition in August, which promises some big time overhauls in social forms. The opposition is a fruition of patterns set in motion at the last Saturn/Pluto conjunction back in 1982-3 and quite likely our highly questionable King George Bush II will be playing a leading role. Uranus rising exactly square to Venus, and sextile to Chiron suggests surprises welling up from the collective unconscious, the heart somewhat alienated, but with potential for healing to match the wounding. ;;)
July 5th, close on the heals of the United States' 225th anniversary, offers us a striking Cancer/Capricorn eclipse of the Moon. (Which just happens to fall opposite to George Bush's Sun besides the obvious connection to the chart of the U.S.) The polarity of home and profession is accented and with the Sun exactly quincunx Pluto, once again we see that radical transformation is in the stars.On the 12th of July, Jupiter and Mercury holding hands, move into the sign of the Crab together. The Greek myth of Hermes and his father Zeus tells a cute story of new-born trickster son Hermes singing the racy song of his own conception in Maia's dark cave. Perhaps we can expect Jupiter's stay in the Moon Mother's realm to be a time of seminal creativity with a tricky outcome. Mercury zips quickly into Leo by the end of the month, but Jupiter's stay in Cancer's underwater cave lasts for about a year. With Cancer ruling the womb and breasts, it will be fun to listen for revealing stories to come forth during these pregnant periods of time. Slowing to stationary by the 19th, Mars continues to be prominent this month, moving back again towards Pluto, and in addition, making the closest approach to Earth for about 14 years. When Mars is opposite to the Sun from our perspective here on the Earth, it means that the red planet is on the same side of the Sun and moving retrograde as the Earth zooms past. Mars has an orbit that takes it at highly variable distances from the Sun. Right now, Mars is at perihelion or its closest approach to the Sun and Earth is close by. If you have not yet taken a look at the bright reddish presence moving ominously near the galactic center between the stinger of the Scorpion and the arrow of the Centaur, this is a great time to do so. The Bush election features many Mars accents and this powerful planet may be particularly linked to Bush II. In classical martial fashion, baby Bush has gotten himself in trouble with the congress and may be in for some more confrontation this month and next. The Earth certainly needs our prayers that he does not lead our country into larger international confrontations with his heavy-handed cowboy approach to diplomacy. 20 July brings us the second new Moon in Cancer, this time at the very end of the sign. With Saturn and Venus in Gemini opposite to Mars and Pluto, the personal relationship element is added to the larger social alembric and the alchemical process is sure to build to a higher degree of transmutation. Before the Sun can enter Leo, the Moon does, giving us a unique period of time of mutual reception of the major lights with Sun in Cancer and Moon in Leo, accenting both, beyond the already pivotal new Moon conjunction. The Sun, on 22 July, slips into his royal leonine robes and takes on the role he likes best -- of magnificent solar ruler. Along with the Cancer emphasis of Mercury and Jupiter and soon Venus, the alchemical marriage of gold and silver presided over by the mercurial/hermetic minister opens a time portal to a tantric inner/outer union of King and Queen. Grab your partner, 2 by 2, tis a time when the dance could be anything but square! Everything required by the royal opus is here: Mars to the 15th degree of heat, the royal metals in their oppositional glory, an alembric sealed by Hermes the alchemist and Pluto the mysterious . . . Who could ask for anything more? Well, maybe a little bit less pressure and shape shifting you say . . . Ha! This double Scorpio says, "turn up the millennial music, let's have a royal ball!"
