Return to the current report Return to the archive lists COSMIC WEATHER REPORT FOR AUGUST 2001 Well, big team, this is the month we have been waiting for, as Pluto and Saturn reach the fullness of their cycle. Fortunately, Universal time gives us Taurus rising and therefore puts an accent on lovely Venus, who is just about to step down from her tower in the clouds to enter the month of her moon bath in watery Cancer. Could be a sensuous bath, with Jupiter waiting nearby, but for now she floats with heavenly hosts, trine to the other air signs, giving her a lofty perspective to the fray below.
If we use a little imagination, with the planets arranged in two bands from Gemini to Leo and then Sagittarius to Aquarius, this month has a message in its shape, beginning as it does somewhat in the shape of an hourglass tipping to its side. (Is time running out? About to begin again as it is tipped all the way over?)All the celestial players, with the exception of Uranus are in the fullness of their oppositions in concert with Saturn/Pluto. In this fullness of time, the fruition is emphasized, and the fruit is related to the seed that was planted at the previous conjunctions. I am not surprised to find an hourglass as the symbol of August, in as much as Saturn is the Roman name for Chronos, the divinity who gives our language words about time. Old Father Time is the guy who feared being replaced by his children and henceforth swallowed each until the Great Mountain Mother, Rhea, intervened. Pluto or Hades was one of these children of Chronos who were swallowed and did return to overthrow his devouring father. This speaks to me of the old order with titanic power that hangs on to that power rather than pass it on to the next generation - read the Bush and Chain-ys around the world who are amassing power at the expense of the younger, less established, order arriving in this new millennium. Pluto/Hades represents the dynamic return of the repressed that overpowers the greedy egocentric stranglehold. Paradoxically, in that Pluto also means wealth, this indicates a struggle of old and new wealth and power. At root, Pluto stands for the richness of Hades realm of death that gives us a deeper and hence richer view of our human situation - the richness of the imagination and the larger perspective of our lives seen from the underworld of the soul. I am hearing the new voices of dissent in Seattle, Genoa and other places around the world where a new imaginative generation is standing up to the old guard with the help of their ecological/Gaian foundation. I am also reminded of that new generation of individuals who are finding their power by way of where they put their money, molding the new society with purchase power where older forms of politics have failed. I just read about the Sierra Club looking into beginning an eco-wise investment branch that will help individuals invest in truly earth friendly companies and help companies choose better values in order to be included. I find it pivotal that in the mythic pattern of Gaia and Rhea, the powers of Earth and Mountain, step in to aid the newborn generation, saving them from the gluttony of their predecessors. How will the Earth respond to the continued misuse of the natural resources? Pluto/Hades in myth is the divinity who flies up through a rift in quaking Gaia to grasp the naïve maiden Persephone. Surprising shock and earthquake are certainly part of the story when Hades is involved and Saturn/Chronos may represent the hanging-on that causes the major quakes on the Earth's surface and in our individual psyches. In Alchemy, Saturn equates to lead and Pluto to plutonium. Lead is used to contain the chain reaction of the radioactive elements that so spontaneously and powerfully transform themselves and their surroundings. Atomic power and earthquake are related in this Saturn/Pluto theme dealing with Titanic forces. If you are like me, you may be noticing repressed material moving up from the underworld - old memories, traumas and deep feelings surfacing from Pluto's rich realm, looking for expression and under-standing. Saturn/Chronos is at once the repressing factor but also the proper form and time to hold the powerful reactions, so that the contents can be examined rather than just be expressed as explosions. With the month beginning as the Moon labors through cautious Capricorn, conjunct the North Node, and opposite giant Jupiter in Cancer, we see another rich symbol of the combination of emotion with form and purpose. Lets use these powerful emotions that are being released to make some improvements in our social world. May ruling Venus from her lofty position high atop 29 degrees of Gemini bring us the perspective to watch our Leo-fed dramas with compassion and the help of a caring friend/lover. You may also find yourself in the role of rebel or conservative in your home or office as Saturn and Pluto move exactly into opposition around the same time as the Sun in individually expressive Leo finds itself opposite a full Moon in Aquarius that is voting democratically for the good of the larger organization. Have fun, but keep it cosmic. With the foggy assistance of nebulous Neptune in Aquarius opposing the brilliant Leo Sun and Mercury, it could be an interesting juggling act indeed. Lady Luna is especially pivotal this month as she either joins the sands of time in the hourglass or forms powerful aspects outside the hourglass like t-squares to all the oppositions and air or fire grand trines. 3,4 &5 August brings us both the Full Moon and Saturn/Pluto opposition, plus a bunch of other exact aspects. While Luna travels the Aquarian path, Mercurius conjunct Sol are making trines to Pluto and sextiles to Saturn. Meanwhile, back at the beach, Venus joins Jupiter on the head of the dragon for a fortunate and karmic partner-ship. Put on your all weather tires for Air, Fire and Water in abundance. The mind, always ready for a good story, is at one with the brilliant source. A real trick within all this celestial action is to stay centered between the opposites, remembering that the hurry-cane dragon is a spiraling phenomenon and fundamentally empty. Join the never-ending story if you wish and take along that loving partner for a spin, but see if you can keep your bearings because this looks to be quite a ride. 5 & 6 August as the Pisces Moon sails into the t-square, be prepared for the deluge that washes everything down the rivers into the dreamworld sea of collected memory. 8 &9 August - Fiery Moon in Aries works to dry up the mess as it creates a tee-square with the nodes and nearby Ceres and Venus/Jupiter and then a Grand trine with Sun/Mercury and Pluto/Mars. Plenty of deep feelings that could get expressed with brilliance and inspiring insight, but beware of burning down all the bridges. Mercury is approaching opposition to Uranus to add in some mental flash and is exact by the 10th. 13 &14 August is the time Mercury flies into favorable Virgo and with Moon also in Gemini, the mind goes into hyperdrive in order to start analyzing and putting things back together after all the Pluto/Saturn destructuring and re-structuring. Watch them gears spin and see if you can stay out of the spinoff. Uranus is approaching opposition to ol' King Sol on the 15th and also at its closest point to the Earth in a very long cycle of perihelions. The intellectual shifts could be very impressive and meaningful. Inventors and revolutionaries, start your engines! 18 August is the Leo New Moon date and looks to be quite spectacular in opposition to Uranus and trine to Mars and Chiron. This could be a good time to playfully put forward your new creation and realize that you just might change the world (both inner and outer). 21,22 &23 August sees the Moon enter Libra and the Sun into Virgo and is one of those very pivotal periods as the solar maid gets busy trying to clean up after the divine Child and we strain to balance the emotions while watching the hourglass tip further over. Libra Moon makes tee-squares to the Cancer/Capricorn opposition and nodes and then trines to Gemini/Aquarius. Meanwhile, Mars conjuncts Chiron trine to Uranus. So what could be going on? Creative messes and devoted cleaning with brilliant mental acrobatics as the hourglass breaks and sands fall while wounds are opened and healed - or to put it more simply: just about anything! Now add this: Luna leans over into steamy Scorpio while Power Player Pluto (who has been stationary for quite awhile) finally turns direct! Wow!!!!!!!! 26 August is when our attractive Goddess of the bivalve steps out of her oceanic bath and into the Fire of the Lioness. Remember that Venus is the ruler of this month's august chart and so her entry onto Leo's stage is a special treat. Let your creative juices flow and dance with the tension of duality as Moon moves through the sign of the human/animal Centaur and opposite to sternly analytical Saturn in the trickster sign of the Twins. Mercury carries us off August's stage on the 31st with further emphasis on mental balance as he holds up Libra's scales and playfully judges this wonder-full month. I wonder what reviews we will be giving this intensely loaded month on the 31st!?????
