THE VERY VERY MONTH OF MAY.
Have you noticed growing intensity in major parts of your daily life lately? Well, this month is heading for a grand meeting of all 7 "visible" planets (including the Sun and Moon). They will be uniting with the solar brilliance in the solid, earthy sign of Taurus, the Bull or Cow. The intensity you have been feeling build has been reflected in the sky as planet after planet joins Saturn in this segment of the zodiac, adding more and more emphasis to certain parts of your life. (See specific signs below for particulars).
Saturn, the wise old devil who teaches us through practical experience (read "the hard way"), entered this very material sign of Taurus in 1998. He has been helping us learn about just what does give us security and what truly "matters" for awhile now. Saturn was joined by jovial Jupiter, fresh from Y2K celebrations, early in the new year and brought along more emphasis on the sensual (and fertile) side of Taurus. In the latter part of March, 2000, Mars added his fiery energy to all our material pursuits and had actually met face to face with both Saturn and Jupiter by the time our local star, old king Sol, made his yearly passage into Taurus on April 20th.
May day (the cross quarter celebration and named for the Great midwife and mother, Maia) finds the speedy messenger, Mercury (and Maia's son) already into the fray. Zipping in to address the assembly on the topic of earthly matters, Mercury in Taurus will help us to be more crafty (in all senses of the word). Mercury's traveling partner for a couple months, lovely Venus enters close on his winged heels into Taurus on the very first day of May and into a sign she finds particularly comfortable. With Venus in Taurus you can expect to enjoy everything that delights the senses. For those of you who want to conceive children, this will be an especially fertile time. If Saturn in Taurus had delayed these plans, even his stubborn resistance will be melted away by the rich golden song of so many voices calling out for earthly
en-joinment. The lunar crescent completes the fertile festivities with images of an overspilling cornucopia. Our moody Moon entering the line-up makes number 7 (actually 8 counting Earth).
Only the three outermost planets, not visible to the naked eye stand outside this alignment. Uranus and Neptune in Aquarius contribute to the staggering number of aspects of this month by being 90 degrees to the alignment. You may experience their presence almost as a side issue reminding you not to forget your loftier Aquarian ideals during this overwhelming rush for material fulfillment. Pluto's deep brooding intensity is angled 150 degrees to the party and turned even more inward with retrograde motion. Uranus and Neptune fire their retro rockets during this month also, suggesting that the more subtle issues will certainly be revisited down the road (It will be wise not to get too carried away). However, for now, the party persists with only minimal complaints from the neighbors - that spiritual odd couple next door and that old underworld character down the street.
Expect the need to jump from extreme density to the lightest levity this month. There are going to be some radical costume changes required at this happening, for no sooner does Lady Luna enter the line dance than Mars is slipping out the back door, eager for his next project (probably one filled with passionate ideas in busy Gemini). Luna herself sails into the winds of Gemini's change next, followed in order by Mercury entering his own sign (May 14th), followed by the Sun (May 20th), and Venus (May 25th). The party takes on a radical and complex twist and you will be thinking of more mental rather than literal conceptions and communications will become of the utmost importance, especially with partners, as vocal Venus moves closer to her archetypal lover Mars in the sign of the Lovers (yes, Gemini was also known as the Lovers, which brings another meaning to the image of the Twins). There is no greater difference between two signs as between fixed, earthy Taurus and mutable, airy Gemini and May focuses on this shift from the structured alignment to the rapid dispersion of the message whatever it may be that is directed right at our lovely blue-green home planet.
There is a full moon in another fixed sign (Scorpio, Taurus' intense counterpart) on the 18th of May, Jupiter and Saturn meet at 22 ½ degrees of Taurus on the 28th of May, and fleet-footed Mercury makes it all the way through Gemini and slips into Cancer at the very end of this mad mad month. You may be getting the picture of May as one big, wild party and this could certainly be the case for many. However, it is also fitting as a solid foundation on which you can build your structures for the next year, (and if you are making long range plans) the next decade, century, millennium, great age (2100 years) and great cycle (26,000 years). There are astrologers arguing convincingly that we stand on this major threshold at this very very time.

MAY 3 & 4, 2000
AND THE EMERGING ASTROPSYCHOBIOLOGY OF EARTHBIRTH:
PRAYER FOR A GENTLE FREEBIRTH

In addition to the alignment of
Earth, the Sun and the two giants, Jupiter and Saturn, the 3rd and
4th of May, 2000 will find all the other planets inward from Jupiter
also in this line-up, including our Moon. They will be in that part
of the psychic sky that tropical astrologers relate to the sign of
the Earth, Taurus the bull or sacred cow, a crescent-horned symbol
dear to the divinities of this lovely planet Gaia. In Greek myth,
Gaia and Uranos are the primal couple, Earth and Heavens, and parents
of the Titans. Our month of May is named for one of their daughters,
one of the Pleidaes, Maia. As titanic Goddess of the Night Sky and
the dark cave, like the Egyptian Nut, Maia is the cosmic mother and
the galaxy is named for her breast-milk. If this is not enough, Maia
is also the primal midwife, and ruler of the inner starscape of womb
and placenta. Her son Hermes, born of the cave, is the trickster and
alchemical heirophant who carries the root symbol of connection and
communication, the caduseus with its triple-wound umbilical
arteries.
As Mother, Father and Child
create the Holy Trinity, so the Placenta as Grandparent completes the
Opus as Holy Quaternity -- the circle squared or mandala. The human
placenta is a fractal expression of Gaia as living being. Likewise,
our Whole Earth as viewed from space is a lovely sphere, and her
swirling image ushered in the new era of 4 dimensional mandala and
Jewel of Fullness -- A blue-green Pearl of Great Pricelessness.
From Gaia*s wide wet womb 3 or
4 billion years ago (3.8), Life as bacteria began from the alpha and
omega cell, blue-green cyanobacteria, offered Gaia her first breath
of Oxygen and midwifed her embryogenesis with 38 great weeks as
self-organizing placenta to set the due date for EarthBirth as a
fullfillment of Christ's fractal birth Mass celebrated as a
mother/father Freebirth 2 millenia earlier.
At 90 degrees to this linear
accelerator aimed at Gaia, fathers Uranos and Neptune in Aquarius
remind us that we stand looking on at the cusp of the Aquarian age,
the completion of the christened era shifting into the next Aquarian
2000. (Shifts happen!) The 90 degree angle being perhaps the most
challenging, we recall that Uranos, Gaia's heavenly partner in Greek
myth, laid heavily upon the Great Mother but did not permit the
children of their union to emerge into the light of day. Chronos
(Saturn) and Zeus (Jupiter) in their turn freed their siblings.
Fortunately and unfortunately, each sign and great age has its front
and back, positive and negative. If Pisces had its sacrificial
suffering it also had its oceanic unity. Likewise, Aquarius has its
egalitarian community and its cold calculating
technocracy.
The only planet behind the
Earth, in the blind spot, Pluto peeks out from the shadows,
apocalyptically uncovered/revealed. ('Get thee behind me Hades') In
Moab we stand, aligned and distracted, at similar crossroads.
Radioactive Atlas tailings seep underground and downstream flowing
into the dark rivers of Hades'/Pluto's underworld. Will Atlas simply
shrug or put Gaia down completely? Uranian uranium and plutonian
plutonium, products of the biology or anti-biotics of destruction and
analysis, stand by cooly observing. Will our alien siblings, asexual
green and grey prokaryotes come to our rescue or simply let their
eukaryotic experiment die out?

Cells as space ships and also mandalas, we gather together in this brave new millennium to cast our vote for cell-abrating symbiotically with all of Gaia's and Uranos' children in fertile canyons and under delicate arches, Earth and Sky as Soul Mates. Apocalypse as the revelation of fresh fragrant baby skin Organ-ically sharing our food, let us, as parents, nurture our embryonic child and savior, and as cells within Earth's body cell-abrate her Great Genetic Dance.
