DECEMBER 2000 COSMIC WEATHER REPORT

     The cosmic weather for this month is contained in seed form within the chart for the first moment of December first. 

     Our local star, Sol is in the fiery sign of the Centaur archer where activity, fun and expanding our horizons is the order of the day (and month). Following the intense emotional con-fusion of Scorpio, Sagittarius can feel like party time. In the U.S., Thanksgiving day is perfectly suited to the symbolism of Sagittarius with its festive flavor, spiritual/religious roots and family orientation. Although Cancer with its connection to the home is more often linked to images of the family, in the progression from Libra (marriage), to Scorpio (sexuality), Sagittarius follows logically with its emphasis on expanded horizons, to include the growing family and extended family relations. Capricorn then follows the natural order as the family draws us into the realm of business and profession.

     This December, Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, is in opposition to the Sun, creating a fully rounded image of vital, broad-minded idealism and expansive mental agility. Jupiter is moving retrograde out of the opposition with his heavy duty brother of the depths, Pluto, perhaps allowing us to breathe a bit easier as this major aspect eases control of our playful Gemini explorations. (However, the presidential election in the U.S. continues much of the opposition in the form of RE-counts as Jupiter Retrogrades. And of course Jupiter and Saturn will both turn direct and transit opposite to heavy Hades in 2001 allowing us plenty of occasion to practice more humility).
No, Pluto is definitely not out of the picture, as Sol is conjunct and moves closer to a meeting with this dark light of the soul and our playful celebrations take on a deeper context. Pluto effects everyone on a very large scale and his stay in Sagittarius is certain to transform family, religion, education and the wide range of higher mind expansion for many years. The conjunction of Pluto and Chiron right on the new millennium presages deep wounding and healing and they are just now moving out of this close encounter for December.

     Magical Mercury and stolid Saturn in opposition speak of radical and conservative facing off. Hermes the thief and trickster whose station right on the day of the presidential election helped herald an extremely unique vote and recount, is also the guide of soul and able to synthesize diversity. Let us hope that Mercury will turn on the charm and be able to mend some fierce splits represented by the close vote and many tricky maneuvers that he helped create. But alas, the division represented by the opposition is very profound as deep-seated.

     Mars, Moon and Venus suggest to me both the teetering duality and help with the healing project. Mars sitting near the balance point of mid Libra, square Venus and the nodes stresses the karmic pivotal situation of these dramatic times. Mars' trine to Uranus in Aquarius offers a fair and just judgment and the larger humanitarian perspective. Moon also here in Aquarius bridging the gap between old age Neptune and new age Uranus could represent the kind of high minded Aquarian and lunar reflective qualities that are required at this time to bring the two camps together. Venus in Capricorn could bring some serious love to the leaden relationship scene and points forward to the new and full moon eclipses of the old and new year. To the extent that the healing image of Christ's birth coincides with the new moon eclipse, forgiveness is certainly available to those with the ability to move off extreme and rigid positions.

     Neptune trine Jupiter also holds out healing possibilities with allowing our expansive minds to rise into the higher octave of divine love. Of course with these two giants there is always the potential for over-reaching and delusion but with the help of the upcoming holy-days, there is indeed room to envision a healing harmonic at work here.

December High Lights:

2 December -- With Mars in Libra trine Uranus in Aquarius and exactly square the Moon's nodes, we could have ample energy to directly explore relationships with new brilliant insights and unique perspectives. Too much harshness, however, could have long-lasting karmic results. Moon conjunct Uranus adds to the ability to reflect objectively on situations. Beware of coming off too cool and aloof. Tell your truth but do no harm -- the ulti-mate balance act!


4 December -- Today Mercury finally ends his labyrinthine twists and turns through ponderous Scorpio and enters Sagittarius. Could it be that we get the straight scoop on the elections? Well, maybe . . .at least there is chance for improvement . . . except that the Sun conjuncts Pluto, square to dreamy Moon in Pisces. Oh well, the deep undercurrents and lack of clarity have their place too, right gang?

5 December -- Venus in Capricorn trines Saturn in Taurus. These two planets are in each other's rulerships (called mutual reception) accenting the relationship. Expect serious but potentially harmonious lessons in love and responsibility.

7 December -- Mercury and Jupiter are opposite and also in each other's signs, creating a complex image of lower, busy mind in full communication with our higher ideals. An especially good time to sit quietly and watch the beauty and terror of our inner dialogs.

9 December -- By entering into high-minded Aquarius, Venus takes on some of her more elegant qualities. Playing with the Muses and Graces, Venus may attract us towards developing some of our more graceful talents. A transformative Moon in Taurus (150 degrees to both Mars and Chiron) approaching Saturn may help in the process of exaltation as we look at our sensual pleasures in a new light. These themes are further accented with Sun sextile Uranus (pointing a finger of God at the North Node) and Neptune exactly trine Jupiter. All these aspects bode well for exaltation, with the re-minder to not get out of touch with the feeling level.

10-11 December -- Large-bellied Luna visiting the realm of the twins makes a whole bunch of trines to the air signs and oppositions to all the planets in Sagittarius. Although the mind is very busy, the overall picture of this full Moon time is one of a ripe gracefulness.

12-13 December --- Lots of conjunctions (Mercury/Pluto, Sun/Chiron and Venus/Neptune) in Sagittarius and Aquarius which happen to be quincunx to the big Moon in her favorite place (Cancer). I see the Moon here on her North Node as gesturing forward to the Christmas and New Year eclipses with a bright lunar smile and high hopes for healing (Venus is also trine Jupiter, "who could ask for anything more") but with ominous undertones as Hermes, the guide of souls meets with Hades, while Neptune and Cancer's involvement suggest that emotions are churning up future waves and tidal actions. Add in Chiron's maverick mode and we have the makins of quite a rich couple days down at the ranch.

14-15 December -- The theme of idealism and emotional realism is continued as Mercury sextiles Uranus and the Centaur's arrow and Cupbearer point towards the North Node in Cancer. Don't leave any parts of yourself behind or you may be meeting them in the "perfect storm." With Moon in dramatic Leo opposing the aquarian bunch, this may be especially good advice.

17 December -- With Mercury conjunct Chiron, this is a great time for the healing message. If enough of us open our hearts today, there will be repercussions across the universe. With Moon in Virgo we can re-verse the curse if we can manifest the galactic nurse (and silence the critic).

18-20 December -- Moon in lovely Libra activates the graceful grand trime in air, then joins Mars to sextile Sun and point a transforming finger of God at Saturn again. We can draw on bountiful energy and light to continue the process of grounding our lofty ideals.

21-22 December -- Sun reaches southernmost solstice, entering Capricorn and with the old Moon in Scorpio, the seriousness and profundity of the season may dawn on us. Happy birth/death King Sol, may we dwell in your royal stillness.

23-24 December -- As Mars moves into one of his powerhouses, Scorpio, and the old Moon transits through the Pluto/Chiron gate of deep crisis and healing, we can expect the underworld to open up -- perhaps even introduce us to Queen Catharsis. Fiat Nux! Meanwhile, Venus and Uranus together keep their eyes on the heavens and the angelic realms just to keep the cosmic balance between soul and spirit. May Santa bring you ecstatic visions this Christmas Eve.

25 December -- Wow! New Moon eclipse at the south node, paradoxically using the light of Christ's Mass and Capricorn's heaviness to let go of old karma. Mercury the herald is also here to make the announcement: Joy to the world!

27-31 December -- Moon transiting through new-aged Aquarius prepares us for the new year and old-aged things to come when Luna floats into Pisces and 2001, the spacey Odd-esty. Lets see if we can swim upstream against the alcoholic current and have a safe and sane celebration.
